HUTCHINSON COUNTY, Texas — A 16-year-old boy from Sanford, Texas, died in a Wednesday crash near Borger, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS.)

The boy was identified as Christopher McBrayer.

DPS said the crash happened 1.5 miles east of Borger on State Highway 152 at about 8 p.m., Wednesday.

A 16-year-old Fritch boy was driving a 2010 Dodge 1500 pickup eastbound out of a curve. DPS said the driver lost control of the pickup, struck the guard rail and rolled over. DPS said it was unknown what caused the boy to lose control of the pickup. Speed is a suspected factor, DPS said.

McBrayer, who was a front seat passenger, was taken to a hospital where he died the next morning.

A 13-year-old back seat passenger from Pampa was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver and a 16-year-old passenger from Borger did not sustain any injuries, DPS said.

DPS said McBrayer was not wearing a seat belt. The others were wearing their seat belts, DPS said.
