A woman and her unborn child were killed in a head-on collision on Saturday.
According to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies investigated a crash on Oct. 17 around 8:30 a.m. on State Road 268 about 6 miles north of Melrose.
Upon investigation, deputies determined a 2010 GMC SUV being driven by 30-year-old Amanda Jean Parkey, was traveling northbound on SR 268 when the vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane, striking a 2005 Nissan passenger car. The Nissan was being driven by a 57-year-old woman and her grandchild who is a minor, deputies said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Parkey, who was 34 weeks pregnant and her unborn child died at the scene. The occupants of the other vehicle involved in the wreck were not injured and the cause of the crash is still being investigated.
